The Far Wild Playlist

While writing books, I’ll often create playlists to get me in the mindset of specific characters. For the Far Wild, I focused on the two primary POV characters: Senesio and Suni.

For Senesio Suleiman Nicolaou, the empire’s most beloved adventurer — or most successful raconteur — I needed something just as big, bold, and ambitious as the legend himself. Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco captured the spirit perfectly. Big sound, ambitious lyrics, and just the right amount of weird.

For naturalist’s apprentice Suni Koudounas, I needed something that better reflected her journey. Something tentative, but growing. Something brave, if only it had the right encouragement. Lindsey Stirling nailed the sound and I am beyond ecstatic about how perfectly the songs mesh with Suni.

Finally, it’s worth noting that the song order roughly corresponds to the chronological events of the book. Beyond that, what they mean and how they represent the characters is entirely up to you. I have my thoughts on that, but I’d rather hear yours. So let me know!
